Lightbox 2 is the second version of the mother of all lightbox clones. Lightbox runs on top of Prototype JS and Scriptaculous. New stuff in version 2 is Image Sets, Visual Effects (Transition). The script is unobtrusive and easier to implement than for example Shadowbox, but you are forced to use the Prototype library. A lot of Ruby-apps run prototype and Lightbox out of the box.
